Steph and her Harp

Ever wanted to play the harp? Come to this hands-on session and have a go! All you need is some curiosity and enthusiasm, previous experience is not required. Guided by tutor Steph West, you will get started with the harp, explore the sounds and layout of the instrument and learn a few tunes. We’ll also cover the history of the harp from its Irish, Scottish and Welsh roots and talk briefly about what harp music is out there now.

Harps will be provided at the workshop

Steph has been teaching and workshop leading since 2005 and regularly works with ages 6 – 76(ish). She teaches privately in Oxford and for the London Irish Music School, and has taught for EFDSS, Comhaltas, the Clarsach Society, Edinburgh Int’l Harp Festival and the Women’s Institute. She also helps run the youth folk project Shooting Roots. Steph also performs as a harper and singer in a variety of settings (including with the British Paraorchestra) but finds she keeps coming back to teaching as it’s too much fun not to.
