Come shaty singersjoin the choir and explore the work-songs of the golden age of sail.  Open to singers of all ages and abilities, these sessions are led by Pete Truin.

Since their heyday between 1815 and 1870, shanties have remained a popular form of song for both sailors and landsmen alike.  During these sessions we will focus on a repertoire of shanties that were used for different jobs onboard ship, exploring more authentic styles of singing as well as some contemporary arrangements of shanties.

No previous musical training is necessary!

Pete Truin is an accomplished singer and mutli-instrumentalist with experience of performing in a wide variety of musical styles, including regular appearances at home and abroad with the shanty group The Ballina Whalers.  He has a broad knowledge of aural traditions, particularly jazz, world and folk music.  Pete is a lifelong sailor, having been on, in and around the sea since his earliest days!
