This workshop is now open to mixed instrument players so come one come all. We’ve already got some fiddlers and a nickle harper but it’d be nice to see some flutes, accordions, clarinets, mandolins and any other instruments you want to bring.
The Harrison and Trad Academy are proud to present an Finnish Tunes workshop from Suvi Oskala. In this workshop Suvi Oskala will teach Finnish fiddle tunes by ear. The Finnish fiddle tunes have interesting melodies and rhythmical bowings different from even the other Scandinavian fiddle styles. This workshop will last one hour and thirty minutes and is aimed at people who can already play their instrument but will be taught by ear so you don’t need to read music.
Suvi Oskala is a fiddle player and a singer combining a solo career with ensemble work in band such as SO III and Duo Emilia Lajunen & Suvi Oskala. She composes material for her solo work and ensembles, and has composed and performed music for several whole performances ranging from the world’s first sign language opera and music for the theatre, solo material in a more contemporary style. Suvi Oskala holds a Master of Music degree from the Folk Music Department of Sibelius Academy where she studied from 2002 to 2010 with fiddle and singing as her two majors. She has also worked as a teacher of folk music for the past ten years.
