Rachel EddyIn this hour long workshop Rachel Eddy will teach old time fiddle by ear.  The “old time” fiddle styles of the Appalachian mountains are characterised by their syncopated bowing patterns and driving rhythms.  There’s some nice videos of old time players here.

This workshop is aimed at people who can already play their fiddle/violin and will be taught by ear so you don’t need to read music.

The workshop will be followed by a gig by Rachel in the Harrison basement and a discount is available for anyone attending both.

Biography:

Rachel Eddy learned to fiddle growing up just outside of Morgantown, West Virginia. She played for many years in local bands, picking up guitar and banjo as well. In 2008, Rachel moved to Nashville, TN, to make her solo record, “Hand on the Plow,” backed by Tim O’Brien, Mark Schatz, Russ Barenberg, and more.

In 2009 Rachel moved to Stockholm, Sweden. She’s spent the last years touring Europe heavily with the traveling World Music festival Klangwelten, and the American all-girl oldtime supergroup, Uncle Earl. She also has a duet and a cd with Kristian Herner from Stockholm’s Rockridge Brothers.

These days Rachel spends her time playing with an all-girl group called the Liza Janes, and with a new stringband project called The Oldtime Remedy.  In between travels she hosts a weekly Oldtime jam in Stockholm and teaches lessons and courses on clawhammer banjo and fiddle.
