Trad Academy Summer Camp – August 2016
The Trad Academy welcomes you to our first ever summer camp for kids! Activities and workshops start in the evening on Sunday 14th of August and run until Friday 19th where the week will end with a small performance and a big celebration!
We are so excited to expand the Trad Academy to offer young people the opportunity to learn music from a variety of folk traditions, with the aim to create and share song and dance with new friends and in a beautiful setting. The course will be led by Chance Kellner, with support from Trad Academy tutors.
The Chellington Centre will be our home for the week. It is especially set up for young people and provides everything we need to make the week a success. It is in gorgeous Bedfordshire surrounded by fields, forest, lakes, and wildlife. We will spend as much time outside as possible. Campfires, outdoor games, and hikes are definitely in order. The centre is a beautiful old church that has been recently converted to accommodate bunk beds and bathrooms/showers, a kitchen, and learning spaces. All the children will be sleeping indoors. Please visit their website for more information www.chellington.org.
During the week there’ll be a choice of workshops. We’ll be running sessions on fiddle playing, singing folk songs, country dancing, step dancing, playing in bands and banjo playing. Our friends at Hobgoblin Music have also agreed to lend us some 5-string banjos for the week so anyone who wants to will be able to borrow a banjo for the week and attend workshops everyday taught by Ed Hicks. Hobgoblin Music sell loads of folk instruments in shop round the UK and we’re really excited to have their support for this project!
